1. What is the country's emergency telephone number?
In case of a medical emergency, call the free of charge telephone number 112. You may call this number in case of any other emergency. The number can be reached also outside the range of your mobile network. The 112 operators speak English.

2. What currency is used for daily transactions in the country?
The official currency in Bulgaria is the Bulgarian lev (BGN). The exchange rate to the Euro is approximately 2:1.

3. Is the use of credit cards wide spread?
Most shops accept card payment but still there are exceptions.
In large stores, hotels and entertainment establishments, the following credit cards are accepted: Visa, MasterCard, very rarely: American Express and Diners Club. Note that in smaller stores, hotels, fast food restaurants and entertainment establishments, it is necessary to pay in cash with Bulgarian lev.

4. What is the best way to exchange currency?
Money can be exchanged at bank branches or at exchange bureaus (we recommend checking if the bureaus take commission for the exchange and what will be the percentage). ATMs can be used with most credit and debit cards.

5. Where are the international airports in the country?
There are international airports in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas. Direct charter flights are available to the Black Sea airports in Varna and Burgas during the summer season.

6. Which are the mobile operators in the country?
Vivacom, Mtel and Telenor. They cover the entire territory of the country. They maintain 2G, 3G, 4G mobile networks.

6. What are the speed limits for motor vehicles in Bulgaria?
The speed limit is 50 km/h in urban areas, 90 km/h outside urban zones and 140 km/h on highways.

7. Bulgaria is located in which time zone?
Bulgaria is located in the Eastern European Time Zone, which is GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) +2 with summer time GMT +3. There are no other time zones within the country.

10. Can I rent a car in Bulgaria?
Visitors can rent vehicles using one of the international rent-a-car companies using their official web sites. We would like to inform you that currently Sofia airport and many hotels offer this service through licensed Bulgarian car rental companies.

11. What is the climate in Bulgaria?
The climate in the country is temperate continental, with Mediterranean influence in the southern parts. The Black Sea influences the climate in the eastern part of the country. There are about 2,000 sunny hours from May to October. During the winter, the mountains are suitable for winter sports.

12. Which season is best for visiting the country?
The best time for a visit depends on the purpose of your trip. The most suitable months for skiing are December, January, February and March. If you are interested in visiting Black Sea beaches – June, July, August and September. If you are a hiker or camper, the most best time is the late spring, the beginning of summer and early autumn. Any time of the year could be considered as a good time to visit one of Bulgaria's many spa resorts.

13. Which are the largest sea resorts?
Sunny Beach, Golden Sands, Albena, Dyuni, Elenite, St. Konstantin and Helena, Sozopol and the cities of Varna and Burgas.

14. Which are the country's best-known mountain resorts?
Bansko, Borovets, Pamporovo, Chepelare and Vitosha.
